“It’s a very important win. We think we want to fight for the Champions League place again. It’s an important win for us.”
“It was good to keep a clean sheet and get some confidence back before the final. I’m happy with the win and the performance of the team.”
“When you play like this, where we show the character of the team, we can beat any team in the world because we just need consistency,” Guimaraes said.
The last major trophy Newcastle clinched was the FA Cup all the way back in 1955, when they defeated Manchester City 3-1.
‘The Carabao Cup final has been a little bit of a distraction to be honest,’ Guimaraes added when asked if the upcoming clash was the reason behind their recent inconsistent form in the Premier League.
‘A few of us have been thinking about the final. We know we will play one of the best teams in the world. But I have confidence in us and am hopeful we can go to Wembley and get the title.
‘The people doubt us but we have no doubts, we have a lot of focus on ourselves and belief in the players we have in the squad.
‘Of course we are missing players and that’s not good for us but today we showed we have a strong squad.’
